BMX National Champs Easter 2007

Liam competed in the NZ BMX national champs during easter 2007. They were held at the newly constructed North Harbour BMX track. The track was designed by Tom Ritzenthaler who has designed the Olympic track in Beijing. The track was awesome and so was the racing, with over 900 riders attending! The Auckland weather was also blessed, with wet weather forecast but never eventuating. We were also blessed with our accommodation, staying with our good friends Greg, Jaq, Maddie and Devon - thanks heaps guy's. They hang out in the suburb of Mt Eden in Auckland. Liam and Mal arrived in Auckland a week before the nationals, spending each day at the track practicing and getting used to the new layout.
Liam races in the UCI 10yr old class, even though he is only 9. The classes are based on birthday in the calendar year. He went into this national champs ranked #10 and had a personal goal of getting into the final, which is top eight. He achieved his goal and is now ranked #5 in NZ, a fantastic effort considering there were 53 riders in his class and he had to ride 'dead man' quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. 'Dead man' is similar to knockout, top four in each moto progress to the next round, so if you fall off, tough.
Chrissy and Sean arrived in Auckland on Easter Friday to join us and watch Liam compete on the Saturday and Sunday. On the Monday we went to Cambridge and visited the Bodle family (Jo, Paul, Hannah, Harry and Georgia) on their farm. We had a great time, did some sheep work, fed out to the cattle, rode motorbikes and generally had a really cool time. Thanks Bodles. We arrived back home late Tuesday night after what had been an awesome Easter. For your enjoyment I have posted a few photo's of the week. Cheers.
